Can't run dual monitors
Published on April 13, 2007 By Lotherius In DeskScapes
I have a 256mb ATI x850xt.

It gets a 5.9 rating from Vista.

It also CANNOT run DeskScapes on dual monitors. It seems someone decided not to pay attention to the fact that MOST OF THE ENTIRE FRICKING WORLD does NOT HAVE 512+mb video cards!

If you buy Ultimate based partly on expecting DeskScapes/DreamScene content, you better be willing to either operate on only one monitor (as many do), or invest in a top end video card also.

Maybe they decided nobody would want Ultimate without at leas 512mb video memory. Honestly, I'm using it for features OTHER than DeskScapes/DreamScene, which I just considered a bonus. A bonus which will NOT WORK.

Interesting, I I have a similar card (Nvidia 7600 GT 256mb) and it ran it on 2 moniters without much problem.

Now go figure , I'm running an ATi300 128mb video card and
only get a stupid 2.5 rating from Vista - yet all the Dreams
run great on my machine and all the ones I make run just fine .
So you tell me what's going on with some who are having problems ?

I too was going to get a hefty new card but why ? .. those are the ones
who seem to have the most problems ,

I'm with the other guy , if it ain't broke why fix it - i'm just fine the way it is !

MontyXP and others:

Turns out it has nothing to do with RAM as I thought when I started the thread.... turns out it has to do with maximum texture size, which is a hard limit.

On a single monitor, pretty much any decent card can do dreams, including the x300 and such. However, when going to DUAL monitors, this breaks any ATI card prior to the x1800, regardless of memory, due to the limitation of 2k pixels per texture.

Frogboy/Neil: Thanks for the clarification. I had reached the conclusion myself that they must be the only two dynamic dreams. I eagerly await more then. I simply ask that posted dreams that are dynamic be clearly marked as such, especially if they are premium.

The SDK is coming. We are just trying to make sure it's reasonably well documented and such.
